13-Year-Old Arrested After Fatal Stabbing of Elderly Woman in Pickering
A 13-year-old male was taken into custody after an elderly female was fatally stabbed in Pickering on May 29, 2025, according to Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS). Police reported this is the region’s second homicide of the year.
DRPS stated that the incident occurred around 3:05 p.m. near Lynn Heights Drive and Fairport Road. Police responded to an unknown trouble call after a passerby found the victim outside a residence with severe injuries. She was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre, where she was pronounced dead.
According to police, video footage showed the victim outside when the suspect approached her. After a brief interaction, police allege the suspect stabbed the victim multiple times and fled eastbound along Lynn Heights Drive before officers arrived.
Following the attack, residents in the area were advised to shelter in place and an Alert Ready notification was issued by Ontario Provincial Police. DRPS said officers from several units — including Air1, Drone, K9, and Tactical Support — conducted an intensive search. The suspect was located and arrested without incident at approximately 8:30 p.m.
DRPS confirmed that the male arrested is from Pickering and that charges are pending. Police indicated that an increased police presence will remain in the area.
