14-Year-Old Charged with First Degree Murder in Pickering’s Second Homicide of 2025
Police say a 14-year-old boy from Pickering has been charged with first degree murder after a woman was killed in Pickering, marking the second homicide in Durham Region this year.
According to the Durham Regional Police Service, officers from West Division responded to an unknown trouble call near Lynn Heights Drive and Fairport Road at approximately 3:05 p.m. on Thursday, May 29. A passerby found an elderly woman on the ground outside a residence with traumatic injuries. Emergency responders transported her to a Toronto-area trauma centre, where she was pronounced dead.
Police reported that after an extensive search, a 14-year-old suspect from Pickering was arrested without incident at about 8:30 p.m. The suspect was initially reported as being 13 years old before police confirmed he is 14.
Police are withholding the victim’s identity at the request of her family. The accused has been held for a bail hearing. Police noted that the allegations have not yet been proven in court.
