2021 Update on Diversity Initiatives and Clarington’s Diversity Advisory Committee

Meera MacDonald, Chair of the Diversity Advisory Committee (DAC), provided an update on the committee's initiatives during the General Government Committee meeting on June 21, 2021. The DAC participated in Orange Shirt Day, which aims to raise awareness about the impact of residential schools on Indigenous communities. Additionally, the committee established an Anti-Black Racism Subcommittee to address issues of racism within the community. MacDonald highlighted the DAC's efforts to confront symbols of hate and showcased artwork created as part of this initiative. The committee also organized community engagement events, including the 'Clarington Comes Together' virtual event. Future goals include developing a training and awareness strategy, implementing the Diversity Lens Tool, and enhancing partnerships and community engagement.
