$25,000 federal grant funds fall 55+ Cultural Connections programs in Clarington

A $25,000 grant from the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program is supporting Clarington’s 55+ Cultural Connections programming this fall, with free or low‑cost classes and spaces still available.

The funding supports activities for residents aged 55 and older that focus on cultural heritage through art, music, dance, cooking and storytelling.

The fall lineup includes:

  • Memoir Writing – Telling Your Cultural Story: October 8 for 10 weeks
  • Irish Set Dancing Workshop: November 7
  • Red Dress Pin Workshop: November 13
  • Fall Dance: November 21

A community survey earlier this year helped shape programming to reflect local interests and cultural traditions.

Recent sessions included Dandiya Raas, a folk dance from Gujarat performed with sticks and music, and a History of Reggae session held this summer.

Participants in an Indian classical folk dance class were joined by Mayor Adrian Foster, council members, municipal staff, and Bowmanville–Oshawa North MP Jamil Jivani to mark the rollout of the Cultural Connections programming for older adults.

Winter program details are expected in December at www.clarington.net/ActiveAdults.
