Accessibility Work Set for Two Intersections in Downtown Bowmanville This Fall

Work to improve accessibility at two intersections in downtown Bowmanville is scheduled to begin this fall, according to the Municipality of Clarington. The upgrades are planned for King Street at Temperance Street and King Street at Division Street and are expected to last approximately four to six weeks, though the municipality notes that timelines may vary depending on weather and other factors.

Residents of Bowmanville may experience changes to pedestrian access during the construction period. The Municipality of Clarington states that work will be limited to one or two corners of each intersection at a time. During active construction at a corner, access to pedestrian crossovers at that location will be restricted.

According to the municipality, the work will include replacing concrete sidewalks and curbs, installing tactile walking surface indicators for blind and low vision pedestrians, adding accessible pedestrian signals with audible cues and pushbuttons, and repainting traffic lines to define crossing areas.

The Municipality of Clarington has stated that signage and detour directions will be posted before any closures begin.
