Ajax Man Charged After Firearm Discharged in Oshawa
Police charged a 24-year-old Ajax man after a firearm was discharged in Oshawa on the morning of July 19, according to Durham Regional Police.
The incident occurred around 10:45 a.m. in the area of Oxford Street and Stone Street. Police reported that several 9-1-1 calls were made regarding a man who was seen shooting a gun into the air and throwing knives.
Officers from Central East Division arrested the suspect at the scene without incident and seized a firearm. A police investigation found that the man allegedly fired the gun into the air multiple times before approaching a vehicle, pointing the weapon at the occupants, and demanding the vehicle. Police stated that the occupants were able to exit safely and no physical injuries were reported.
The suspect, identified by police as Brandon James, faces several charges, including discharging a firearm reckless as to the life or safety of another person, attempted robbery with an offensive weapon, use of firearm in the commission of an offence (two counts), possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon knowing no authority, and possession contrary to a prohibition order.
Police have asked anyone with cell phone, dash cam, or surveillance footage of the incident to contact investigators. Police noted that the allegations have not been proven in court.
