A 17-year-old from Ajax has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged robbery involving a firearm at a Tim Hortons in Ajax, Durham Regional Police said. Police said the incident happened around 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026, near Middlecote Drive and Taunton Road East.

The charges stem from a police investigation into what officers described as an “armed person” call. Durham Regional Police said the allegations have not been proven in court.

According to police, an argument took place inside the restaurant between the accused and a victim. Police allege the accused threatened the victim and said he had a firearm.

Police allege the accused then followed the victim outside, pulled a firearm from his waistband, and demanded clothing items. Police said the accused attempted to take the items and then fled on foot before officers arrived.

Investigators later determined the accused was bound by a release order that prohibited him from possessing weapons, police said.

Durham police said the teen is charged with one count each of robbery, uttering threats to cause bodily harm, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, and failing to comply with a release order.

Police said the accused was held for a bail hearing.
