Al Kanater Tahini Recalled in Alberta Over Salmonella Risk

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced a recall on May 18, 2025, affecting Al Kanater brand Tahini distributed in Alberta due to possible Salmonella contamination.

This recall applies to 908-gram containers of Al Kanater Tahini with UPC 5 285000 871200, marked with PRO: 09/07/2024, EXP: 09/07/2026, Lot: T40907. Consumers in Alberta are advised by the CFIA not to consume, use, sell, serve, or distribute the recalled Tahini. The agency instructs that the product should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase. According to the CFIA, food contaminated with Salmonella may look or smell normal but can still cause illness. The agency noted that young children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems face increased risk of severe infection. Symptoms can include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

The recall was initiated by the distributing firm, 1676183 Alberta Ltd. The CFIA reports that it is continuing its investigation and verifying that recalled products are removed from the marketplace.
