Aoun brand Tahineh recalled in Ontario and Quebec over possible Salmonella
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a Class 2 food recall warning on Nov. 26, 2025, for Aoun brand Tahineh due to possible Salmonella contamination. The products were distributed in Ontario and Quebec, and no illnesses have been reported. The recalling firm is Alimentation du Canada.
The CFIA advises consumers not to consume, sell, serve, use, or distribute the recalled tahini and to throw it out or return it to the place of purchase. Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause illness, and older adults are among those at higher risk, according to the agency.
The recall covers the following products:
- Aoun Tahineh – Ground Sesame, 400 g; UPC 5 283000 905710; codes: 2026 DE 09; 0512L/THA
- Aoun Tahineh – Ground Sesame 100%, 800 g; UPC 5 283000 904980; codes: 2026 DE 09; 0512L/THA
Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea, according to the CFIA. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis, the agency warns.
CFIA test results triggered the recall. The agency is conducting a food safety investigation that may lead to additional recalls and is verifying that recalled products are being removed from the marketplace.
The notice lists identification number RA-81287. The alert was originally published and last updated on Nov. 26, 2025.
