Applications Open for Fifth DRPS Citizens’ Police Academy

The Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) has opened applications for its fifth Citizens’ Police Academy. The 10-week program is set to run from September 17 to November 19, 2025, with classes held on Wednesday evenings at DRPS facilities in Durham Region.

According to DRPS, the academy offers an overview of modern policing practices for local residents. The program consists of presentations, demonstrations, and voluntary hands-on activities. Topics may cover the organization of DRPS, use of force training, court services, traffic services, mental health initiatives, and specialized police units.

DRPS states the purpose of the academy is to build public awareness and understanding of police operations. The program is not intended to serve as training for potential officers or as a recruitment pathway.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and either live or work in Durham Region. DRPS requires participants to complete a police security check and attend at least 75% of sessions to receive a certificate of completion. Personal information will be collected during the application process. The deadline to apply is Friday, July 18, 2025.

Further information and the application form are available on the official DRPS website.
