Around 6,000 New Students Begin Classes at Durham College for 2025-26
Approximately 6,000 new students have begun post-secondary studies at Durham College for the 2025-26 academic year, according to a college update issued on September 4, 2025. Both new and returning students arrived at the Oshawa and Whitby campuses as classes started this week.
The influx of new students marks the start of a new academic year for Durham College and brings increased activity to both campus locations.
Durham College reported that employees welcomed students as they arrived, providing directions, answering questions, and assisting with purchases at the Campus Store. College staff wore green to make themselves easily identifiable for students seeking help.
Tara Koski, Dean, Students, joined the Welcome Team at The Pit in the Oshawa campus on the first day of classes. Koski said, "There’s a whole host of emotions, from excitement to nervousness, and for a lot of students asking for help can be a barrier." Koski also noted seeing students show relief when they recognized a familiar face from earlier sessions.
Records Manager Julie Hunt was among the employees helping students in the Campus Store as they bought textbooks and school supplies. Hunt said, "The faster we can help students and address their questions or their concerns, the more comfortable they feel."
Durham College operates two campuses, located in Oshawa and Whitby.
