Baklava and Ice Cream Products Recalled in Mississauga for Salmonella Risk

A range of baklava and ice cream products sold at Shamyat Cuisine, 4141 Dixie Road in Mississauga, are being recalled due to possible Salmonella contamination, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), which issued a food recall warning on September 4, 2025. The items were sold between June 1 and June 30, 2025.

The CFIA states this recall is connected to its ongoing investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak, affecting products distributed in Ontario. The agency advises consumers and retailers not to consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute the recalled products.

According to details from the CFIA, the affected items include:

  • Shamyat Pistachio Arabic Ice Cream (1 kg packaged and clerk-served)
  • Pistachio Mabrume (clerk-served)
  • Pistachio Finger Baklawa (clerk-served)
  • Pistachio Flower Baklawa (clerk-served)
  • Pistachio Square Baklawa (clerk-served)
  • Pistachio Faisaliyea (clerk-served)
  • Pistachio Basma (clerk-served)

None of these products have UPC codes for identification. They were all sold at Shamyat Cuisine in Mississauga during the month of June.

The CFIA notes that food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause illness. People infected with Salmonella may experience symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are at increased risk for serious infection. Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms.

The recall was triggered by findings during the CFIA’s foodborne illness investigation. The agency reports it is working to remove recalled products from the marketplace and notes additional recalls may occur as the investigation continues. The Public Health Agency of Canada is also investigating the related illness outbreak.
