Bonnie Crombie Sets Forth Plan to Aid Young Ontarians

Bonnie Crombie announced a new initiative aimed at supporting young people in Ontario through various economic and social measures. This plan includes a goal to reduce youth unemployment by 50% and to create 40,000 new paid positions through co-ops, internships, and apprenticeships.

The initiative proposes financial measures such as halving the small business tax rate to encourage business growth and job creation. To address educational costs, the plan includes eliminating interest on OSAP loans and adjusting income thresholds for repayment to make higher education more affordable.

Housing affordability is also addressed, with proposals for rent controls and waivers on land transfer taxes for first-time homebuyers. Crombie's plan includes reducing income taxes to increase financial flexibility for young Ontarians.

Health care improvements are part of the plan, with a proposal to hire 3,100 family doctors throughout the province. Crombie noted that economic pressures are pushing some young people to consider moving to other provinces or countries, a concern she aims to tackle with this comprehensive plan.

This announcement follows ongoing economic challenges for young people in the province, highlighting key areas of concern such as rent levels and student loan burdens.
