Bowmanville Community Complex sports dome opens; programs set to start Oct. 13
Residents toured the new multi-sport dome at the Bowmanville Community Complex during an open house on Saturday, Oct. 3, and recreation programs in the facility are set to begin Oct. 13, according to the Municipality of Clarington.
The dome adds a 100,000-square-foot indoor turf field and a three-lane indoor walking track to the site, offering new indoor space for sports and walking.
About 1,700 people attended the Oct. 3 open house, the municipality said. Darlington Soccer Club, the Clarington Baseball Association and the Clarington Knights Football Association also participated.
The municipality says the dome includes a FIFA-sized indoor turf field. A three-lane, 370-metre walking track circles the field.
The turf does not use traditional rubber “crumb” infill, according to the municipality.
Programs are scheduled to begin Oct. 13. Programs for adults 55 and over include Walking Soccer, Pole Walking Plus and Osteo Fitness, the municipality said.
The Bowmanville Community Complex is a cash-free facility, according to the municipality.
Construction began in May 2025.
More amenities are planned as part of the broader Bowmanville Community Complex project. Plans call for the facility to span more than 172,000 square feet when complete.
Plans also include two FIBA-sized multi-sport courts and flexible program spaces.
Other planned features include an outdoor refrigerated skating trail that the municipality described as Durham Region’s first. The municipality also said plans include reopening Clarington’s only outdoor lacrosse bowl.
The project includes an aquatics centre with a six-lane, 25-metre lap pool and a warm-water pool, along with a nearly 2,000-square-foot fitness and dance studio with wood sprung flooring and a ballet barre.
The project is supported in part by a $10-million grant from the Province of Ontario through the Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund (CSRIF), the municipality said.
