Bowmanville Water Restrictions Lifted After Plant Maintenance

Mandatory water restrictions for Bowmanville residents and businesses have been lifted, according to an announcement from the Regional Municipality of Durham on August 2.

The restrictions ended following the completion of maintenance on one of three filters at the Bowmanville water supply plant, which had caused a temporary reduction in capacity. The Region stated that water quality was not impacted during this period.

With restrictions now lifted, Bowmanville residents may resume watering but must continue to follow the “odd-even lawn day watering” schedule required by Regional Water Supply By-law #85-2003 from May to September.

As of August 2, the Region reports that mandatory water restrictions remain in effect for Beaverton, Cannington, Sunderland, Uxbridge, Port Perry, Orono, Blackstock, and Greenbank. The Region attributed these ongoing restrictions to a prolonged lack of rain and increased water demand during recent extreme heat, which has strained water systems in those communities.
