Bowmanville’s Jazmyn Romano appointed to Durham College Alumni Association board

Bowmanville resident Jazmyn Romano has been appointed to the Durham College Alumni Association (DCAA) Board of Directors, according to a Durham College profile posted Sept. 28.

The appointment places a local graduate on the alumni association’s board, which Durham College describes as representing alumni.

Durham College’s profile describes Romano as a two-time graduate who completed the college’s Paralegal program in 2024 and the Law Clerk – Advanced program in 2025.

“I thought that once I graduated, my time at Durham College was done,” Romano said in the college post. “But it’s great to be able to get involved as an alumnus.”

The profile says Romano is studying remotely toward an international law degree at the University of London.

Romano said she has “an interest in justice because it’s an area where you have the ability to help people and make actionable change.”

While she was a student, Romano launched Romano Remote Virtual Assistant Services, which the Durham College post describes as providing business process outsourcing for clients.

“The bulk of my clients are realtors, and I studied real estate law in the Law Clerk program,” Romano said. “That was a good foundation in figuring out the real estate market, how to work with realtors, and especially drafting the various forms that are needed.”

Romano also said she spent time at Durham College’s First Peoples Indigenous Centre and spoke with Dr. Kayla Murphy, Director, Indigenous Initiatives.

“My family is Métis,” Romano said. She said her connection to her Indigenous identity “has sometimes felt complicated.”

The Durham College post says Romano plans to attend the college’s Orange Shirt Day Mini Powwow on Wednesday, Sept. 30. The event is being held in recognition of Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, according to the college.

Romano is quoted in the post as saying, “I’m excited to see where it goes, and how I can help.”
