This year’s program, as outlined by Canadian Heritage, is part of several official events and activities taking place both in the Canada’s Capital Region and nationwide. Parliament Hill will feature performances by the Ceremonial Guard Band, bagpipers, demonstrations by the Snowbirds, and large-screen broadcasts of the national shows. The Supreme Court of Canada will be an event site for the first time, offering public activities such as yoga and drumming workshops as well as live coverage of both national celebrations. Old Hull in Gatineau will provide family activities during the day and evening concerts by artists.
Canadian Heritage also details an initiative called the O Canada! Station, which allows people to record a short video about Canadian identity at major VIA Rail stations or on the O Canada! Station website. According to officials, some videos may be featured during the national evening broadcast. Videos submitted between May 29 and July 2 are eligible for a draw to win one of two VIA Rail trips valued at up to $15,000 each.
