CFIA issues Class 2 recall of Aoun Tahineh for possible Salmonella in six provinces

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a Class 2 food recall warning on Dec. 13 for Aoun brand Tahineh – Ground Sesame 100% (800 g) due to possible Salmonella contamination. The product was distributed in Ontario, Alberta, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Quebec and Saskatchewan.

Salmonella may not change a food’s look or smell but can still cause illness. Older adults, young children, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems face higher risk of serious infection. Symptoms can include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long‑term complications can include severe arthritis.

The recalled product is Aoun brand Tahineh – Ground Sesame 100% (800 g), UPC 5 283000 904980, Best Before 2026 JL08, Lot # 0907L/THA.

No illnesses had been reported as of the notice. The recall was triggered by CFIA test results.

A food safety investigation is underway and may lead to additional recalls. The CFIA is verifying that industry is removing the recalled product from the marketplace.

CFIA advises consumers to check for the recalled product and not to consume, serve, use, sell or distribute it. The agency says the tahini should be thrown out or returned to the place of purchase, and anyone who thinks they became sick after consuming it should contact a healthcare provider.

The recalling firm is 9115765 Canada Inc. The notice lists category Food – Condiments, identification number RA-81354 and CFIA ID 17087. It was published on Dec. 13, 2025.
