CFIA Recalls Al Mokhtar Food Centre Pistachios in Ottawa for Possible Salmonella Contamination

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced on July 30, 2025, that Al Mokhtar Food Centre brand Pistachio, sold in 450 gram packages with UPC 2 60164 54022 8, is being recalled due to possible Salmonella contamination. The recalled product was available at 383 McArthur Avenue in Ottawa, Ontario.

The CFIA has stated that food contaminated with Salmonella may not have any noticeable signs of spoilage but can still cause illness. The agency notes that young children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems are at greater risk of serious or potentially life-threatening infections. Symptoms for healthy individuals can include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. The CFIA also identifies long-term complications such as severe arthritis as possible effects of infection.

According to the CFIA, this recall was initiated during an ongoing investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak. As of the announcement, there have been no reported illnesses linked with this pistachio product. The agency is continuing its investigation and monitoring the removal of recalled products from sale. The CFIA indicates that more recalls are possible as the situation develops.

The CFIA advises consumers not to consume, use, sell, serve, or distribute the affected pistachios. Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the place of purchase.
