CFIA recalls Basha Foods Raw Shelled Pistachio "Kernal" for possible Salmonella; distributed in Alberta
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a Class 2 food recall warning on Oct. 21 for Basha Foods brand Raw Shelled Pistachio "Kernal" due to possible Salmonella contamination. The product was distributed in Alberta. The recall was triggered by CFIA test results, and no illnesses have been reported.
The agency said Salmonella may not be detectable by look or smell but can still cause illness. According to the CFIA, young children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of serious infection. Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea; long-term complications may include severe arthritis.
The recalled product is Basha Foods brand Raw Shelled Pistachio "Kernal" in variable sizes with a UPC that starts with 0 207216. The codes listed are “Packed On SE.30.25” and “Best Before MR.29.26,” the CFIA notice states.
The CFIA advises consumers not to consume, use, sell, serve, or distribute the recalled product. Recalled items should be thrown out or returned to the place of purchase. The agency also advises anyone who thinks they became sick after consuming the product to contact a healthcare provider.
The recalling firm is Basha Foods International. The alert is a food recall warning in the Food – Nuts, grains, and seeds category and carries identification number RA-78331. The original publication date is Oct. 21, 2025, according to the CFIA.
The CFIA said it is conducting a food-safety investigation that may lead to additional recalls. The agency is also verifying that industry is removing recalled products from the marketplace.
