CFIA recalls bulk raw pistachios sold at Burlington Bulk Food Warehouse over Salmonella risk
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a Class 2 food recall warning for unbranded raw pistachios sold in bulk at Bulk Food Warehouse, 516 Plains Rd. E, Burlington, ON, due to possible Salmonella contamination. The nuts were sold from May 1 up to and including Aug. 15, 2025, and the recall is linked to an ongoing foodborne illness outbreak investigation.
Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause illness. Young children, pregnant women, older adults and people with weakened immune systems face higher risk of serious infection. Healthy people may experience fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.
The recalled product has no brand name or UPC because it was sold in bulk with variable weights. The recalling firm is Bulk Food Warehouse. The notice lists the category as Food — Nuts, grains, and seeds, with distribution in Ontario.
The CFIA advises consumers and retailers not to consume, use, sell, serve or distribute the recalled pistachios. The agency advises checking for raw, unbranded bulk pistachios purchased at the Burlington store during the listed dates and throwing them out or returning them to the place of purchase. Anyone who thinks they became sick after consuming the product should contact a healthcare provider, the CFIA says.
The recall was triggered by findings made during the CFIA’s food safety investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak. The Public Health Agency of Canada is investigating an active outbreak of human illness. The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation that may lead to the recall of other products and is verifying that recalled products are being removed from the marketplace.
The notice was published Oct. 27, 2025, by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and is identified as RA-78402.
