CFIA recalls certain roasted pistachios sold at Edmonton retailer due to possible Salmonella

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a Class 2 food recall warning on Oct. 30, 2025, for certain roasted pistachios sold at Fresh Nuts, 12522-132 Avenue in Edmonton, due to possible Salmonella contamination. The products have no listed brand and were sold in variable sizes with no UPC between April 8 and Oct. 29, 2025. No illnesses have been reported, and CFIA test results triggered the recall.

Distribution is limited to Alberta. The CFIA advises consumers not to consume the recalled products and to discard them or return them to the place of purchase. The agency says food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick.

The recalled products, which have no listed brand or UPC, include:

  • Roasted Pistachios Barbeque (variable size)
  • Roasted Pistachios Salty (variable size)
  • Roasted Pistachios Lemon (variable size)
  • Roasted Pistachios Saffron (variable size)

The recalling firm is Fresh Nuts Inc.

The CFIA states that young children, pregnant women, older adults and people with weakened immune systems are at higher risk of serious infection. Reported symptoms can include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis. The CFIA advises anyone who thinks they became sick after consuming a recalled product to contact their healthcare provider.

A CFIA food-safety investigation is underway and may lead to the recall of other products. The agency is verifying that industry is removing the recalled pistachios from the marketplace.

This recall is identified as RA-78425 (CFIA ID 16873). The CFIA also lists a related alert: “Long Akbari Pistachio Size: 20/22 OZ” recalled due to Salmonella. The alert is categorized by the CFIA as a food recall warning in its nuts, grains and seeds category.
