CFIA recalls four Wu Xian Zhai products for undeclared wheat

Share

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a Class 1 food recall warning for four Wu Xian Zhai brand products—two Vegetarian Beef flavours and two Preserved beancurd flavours—because they contain wheat that is not declared on the label. CFIA says the products were distributed in Ontario, Nova Scotia, Quebec and Saskatchewan. The recall notice was last updated Aug. 19, 2026.

The warning matters for people with wheat allergies or sensitivities, and for anyone with celiac disease or other gluten-related disorders. CFIA advises those individuals not to consume the recalled products, warning they may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction.

The affected 108 g products include the following; all codes are affected where wheat is not declared on the label:

  • Wu Xian Zhai Vegetarian Beef (Five spices flavor) — UPC 6 924878 900580
  • Wu Xian Zhai Vegetarian Beef (Numb & spicy flavor) — UPC 6 924878 900573
  • Wu Xian Zhai Preserved beancurd (Spices beef flavor) — UPC 6 924878 900580
  • Wu Xian Zhai Preserved beancurd (Pepper beef flavor) — UPC 6 924878 900573

CFIA test results triggered the recall, according to the agency. CFIA reports no reactions have been reported in connection with the products.

CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation and says it may lead to additional recalls. The agency also says it is verifying that the products are being removed from the marketplace.

The recalling firms listed in the notice are AJ International Trading and Kam Wah Resources Co. Ltd. CFIA says each company is responsible for some, but not necessarily all, of the recalled products.

The recall is listed under identification number RA-82506.
