CFIA recalls pistachio products in Ontario and online over Salmonella risk

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a Class 2 recall on Nov. 6 for several pistachio and pistachio-containing products sold in Ontario and online due to possible Salmonella contamination.

Salmonella can cause serious illness, especially in young children, pregnant women, older adults and people with weakened immune systems. CFIA advises consumers not to eat recalled items and to throw them out or return them.

The recall is linked to an ongoing investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak. The Public Health Agency of Canada is investigating an outbreak of human illness. The investigation may lead to additional recalls. CFIA is verifying that industry is removing recalled products from the marketplace.

Affected brands listed by CFIA are Bondi, Crispy Just Baked!, Cucina Mario, Gujarati Foods, Harvest, Nut Works and Sasa, with the following products recalled:

  • Crispy Just Baked! Pistachio Shortbread Cookies, 350 g, UPC 6 27265 00928 1; codes 25153, 25162.
  • Gujarati Foods Kari Ladoo, 400 g, UPC 7 25272 72006 6; sold from May 1 up to and including July 31, 2025 at Gujarati Foods, 287 Glidden Rd., #14, Brampton, ON.
  • Harvest Raw Pistachio Kernels, 1 kg, UPC 436551 003946; codes 25160083, 25169026, 25185034.
  • Harvest Raw Pistachio Kernels, 1.5 kg, UPC 436551 003908; code 25178043.
  • Nut Works Pistachios Raw Whole Without Shell, 200 g, UPC 803871 703953; codes 25183039, 25143040, 25141008, 25155013.
  • Nut Works Raw Pistachio Kernels, 2.27 kg, UPC 803871 003961; codes 25160075, 25153036, 25156011, 25156028, 25162002, 25162005, 25167042, 25189012.

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still cause illness. Symptoms may include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea; long-term complications may include severe arthritis.

Recalled firms named by CFIA are Genesis Wholesale, Gujarati Foods and TWI Foods Inc. The recall is identified as RA-78462. The alert was originally published Nov. 6, 2025, and lists distribution in Ontario and online.
