CFIA recalls raw pistachios sold at Burnaby supermarket over Salmonella risk

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a food recall warning on October 12 for certain raw pistachios sold at Sabzi Mandi Supermarket, 7565 6th St, Burnaby, B.C., due to possible Salmonella contamination. The products were sold from July 31 to October 12, 2025. No illnesses have been reported.

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled and can still make people sick. Young children, pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems may be at higher risk of serious and sometimes fatal infections.

CFIA test results triggered the recall. Distribution is listed as British Columbia. The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation and verifying that industry is removing the recalled products from the marketplace. The investigation may lead to recalls of other products.

The CFIA advised consumers not to consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute the recalled products and to throw them out or return them to the place of purchase.

The recall covers the following products sold at Sabzi Mandi Supermarket, 7565 6th St, Burnaby, B.C., between July 31 and October 12, 2025:

  • Sabzi Mandi Supermarket brand Pistachio Raw, 400 g, UPC 775620905614
  • IND FOODS brand Raw Pistachios, 400 g, UPC 775620905614
  • Unbranded “Pistachio Raw,” variable-weight bulk self-serve, no UPC

Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.
