The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a food recall warning on Oct. 3, 2026, for Smarter Snacks brand Vegan Protein Puff Chili & Lime Flavored after the agency said the product contained milk that is not declared on the label.

The CFIA warned that people with a milk allergy or sensitivity could have a serious or life-threatening reaction if they consume the product.

The recalled product is sold in a 50 g package with UPC 8 684041 306837. The recall covers all lots where milk is not declared on the label.

The product was distributed nationally and sold online.

The CFIA said the recall was triggered by its test results. The agency also reported one reaction associated with consumption of the product.

Empire Health Distribution Inc. is listed as the recalling firm. The recall is classified as Class 1 and carries identification number RA-82723.

The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation that could lead to additional recalls. The CFIA is also verifying that the product is being removed from the marketplace.

The CFIA advised consumers to check for the product and not eat it if they are allergic or sensitive to milk. The agency said the product should not be served, used, sold or distributed, and should be thrown out or returned to where it was purchased.
