CFIA recalls Taeyangcho gochujang sold in Alberta, B.C. and Saskatchewan over undeclared wheat
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has recalled Taeyangcho Gochujang (Hot Pepper Paste) sold in Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan because the product contains wheat that is not declared on the label.
The agency warned that people who are allergic or sensitive to wheat, or who have celiac disease or other gluten-related disorders, could have a serious or life-threatening reaction if they consume the affected products.
According to the CFIA, the brand on the recalled products is listed as “N/A (Korean characters only).” The recall covers these package sizes and UPCs:
- 170 g (UPC 8 801075 012323)
- 500 g (UPC 8 801075 012316)
- 1 kg (UPC 8 801075 012620)
The CFIA said the recall applies to all lot codes where wheat is not declared on the label.
The recalling firm is HYMS Trading Ltd.
The CFIA said the recall was triggered by a consumer complaint, and that there have been no reported reactions linked to consumption of the products.
The agency said it is conducting a food safety investigation that may lead to the recall of other products, and it is verifying that the recalled products are being removed from the marketplace.
The recall is classified as Class 1 under identification number RA-82728.
