CFIA recalls Vincenzo’s Sweet and Savory Mix in Ontario over Salmonella risk
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a food recall warning on Dec. 5 for Vincenzo’s brand Sweet and Savory Mix in Ontario due to possible Salmonella contamination. The product was sold at Vincenzo’s, 150 Caroline Street South, Waterloo, Ontario.
Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make people sick. Young children, pregnant women, older adults and people with weakened immune systems face higher risk of serious infection. Symptoms can include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea; long-term complications may include severe arthritis.
The recall covers Vincenzo’s Sweet and Savory Mix (variable size) with UPC 2372188 015120 and code 7219, best-before 2025.DE 10. It is a Class 2 food recall warning (Identification No. RA-81328) in the “Candy, confectionary, snacks and sweeteners” category. The recalling firm is Vincenzo’s.
The CFIA advised consumers to check for the recalled product, not consume, sell, serve, use or distribute it, and to throw it out or return it to the place of purchase.
The company triggered the recall. As of Dec. 5, there have been no reported illnesses associated with the product.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products. It is verifying that industry is removing the recalled product from the marketplace.
