Clarington Council Amends Procedural By-law to Include 'O Canada'

The Clarington Council, at its General Government Committee meeting held on April 7, 2025, approved an amendment to its Procedural By-law. This amendment introduces the singing of the Canadian National Anthem, 'O Canada,' at the start of regular council meetings. The anthem will be played after the Land Acknowledgement and before the Moment of Silence.

Additionally, there was a proposal to amend rules for electronic participation by council members, which included a requirement for members to keep their cameras on during meetings. However, this proposal did not pass, as it resulted in a tie vote.

Council staff have been tasked with ensuring that 'O Canada' is played at meetings where it is technically feasible, with the changes being implemented at the earliest opportunity.
