Clarington council withdraws notice of intention to designate 1 Veterans Avenue in Bowmanville

Clarington council has withdrawn its notice of intention to designate the property at 1 Veterans Avenue in Bowmanville under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act, according to a municipal notice dated Sept. 25, 2026.

The withdrawal means the earlier step toward designating the property—described in the notice as having “architectural and historical value”—has been reversed, based on the municipality’s published notice.

The notice states that “the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Clarington withdraws the Notice of Intention to Designate” for 1 Veterans Avenue in Bowmanville.

The document cites subsection 29(9) of the Ontario Heritage Act.

The notice does not state why council withdrew the notice of intention to designate.
