Clarington Man Charged with Drug Trafficking After Incident in Newcastle
A 41-year-old Clarington man was arrested on June 6, 2025, after Durham police responded to an alarm call near Grady Drive and Rudell Road in Newcastle. According to the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS), officers found the man at a construction site, where he was attempting to access the office. Police stated he tried to flee on an electric scooter but was taken into custody at the scene.
The DRPS reported seizing drugs valued at over $50,000 during the arrest. Police said further investigation connected the suspect to property damage at the Newcastle GO station lot.
The suspect, identified by police as Ryan DASILVA, 41, of Clarington, faces six charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking a Schedule I substance, one charge of obstructing a peace officer, and one charge of mischief/damage to property under $5,000. Police stated that he was held for a bail hearing.
According to the DRPS, the facts come from a police investigation, and these allegations have not yet been proven in court.
