Clarington mayor marks start of Yom Kippur in Sept. 20, 2026 statement

Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster issued a statement on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2026, marking the start of Yom Kippur at sunset.

The statement is one of the municipality’s official messages tied to community and religious observances, and it includes a brief description of the day and well-wishes to residents who are observing it.

“As the sun sets tonight, the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur begins,” Foster wrote.

“For many in our community, it is a solemn holiday spent in fasting, prayer and introspection,” he added.

Foster also addressed people attending services, writing: “For all those gathering for religious services in synagogue, may you find goodness, peace, and harmony in the year ahead.”

“On behalf of Clarington Council, I wish everyone observing Yom Kippur a blessed day,” he wrote.

The statement ended with the greeting “Shana Tova.”
