Clarington Mayor Responds to Intimate Partner Violence Incident
Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster issued a statement on September 4 following an intimate partner violence assault in the municipality. According to Foster, a Clarington resident is receiving treatment in a Toronto hospital after the incident. He expressed hope for the individual’s recovery and extended support to her and her loved ones.
In his statement, Foster described intimate partner violence as an epidemic that affects all areas of Clarington. He urged anyone causing harm to seek help and noted that resources are available for support and accountability.
Resources identified by Foster include Family Services Durham, which provides individual, couple, and family counselling; the John Howard Society of Durham Region, which offers an anger management program; and Canadian Mental Health Association Durham, which offers case managers and a wellness centre.
Foster concluded by stating that the community stands united against misogyny, hate, and gender-based violence.
