Clarington mayor says Darlington refurbishment is complete, cites early and under-budget finish
Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster said the refurbishment at the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station has been completed, and said it finished “ahead of schedule” and “under budget.” Foster made the remarks in a statement posted by the Municipality of Clarington on Feb. 6.
The statement addresses a major industrial project in Clarington that the mayor said is now finished, while also making claims about timing, cost and performance that were not accompanied by supporting figures in the municipal post.
The municipal post did not include dates, cost figures, or other details to support the “ahead of schedule” and “under budget” claims.
The post also included a caption describing the work as “the world’s largest refurbishment,” without providing comparisons or supporting information.
In his statement, Foster credited the Province of Ontario, Ontario Power Generation, and “skilled tradespeople, engineers, and project teams” for the work.
Foster also connected the Darlington site to other areas he described as part of a broader focus at Darlington, including “advancing medical isotopes,” “building Small Modular Reactors” and “exploring a fusion research centre.”
The municipal page also included photos of Foster at Darlington with captions referring to the completion of the refurbishment and to Foster congratulating work crews, Ontario Power Generation and the Ontario government.
