Clarington opens registration for 2026–27 snow-clearing program for eligible seniors and disabled residents

The Municipality of Clarington has opened registration for its 2026–27 Snow Clearing Program for Seniors and Persons with Disabilities. Applications will be accepted from Sept. 21 to Oct. 31, 2026, and the seasonal fee is $107.69.

The program is intended for eligible residents who need help keeping access routes clear during winter storms. The municipality says it provides sidewalk and driveway-end clearing in certain urban areas for people who meet age, disability and household requirements.

Under the program, crews clear municipal sidewalks in front of and beside a registered property, as well as the windrow left at the end of the driveway, the municipality said.

Clarington said service begins within 24 hours after snow stops falling, but only when more than 7.5 centimetres (about three inches) accumulates from a single storm. If the accumulation is less than 7.5 centimetres, residents are responsible for having the snow cleared, according to the municipality.

To qualify, applicants must be 65 or older, or have a physical disability certified by a licensed medical doctor, the municipality said. Eligible households must not have an able-bodied resident under age 65 living in the home.

The municipality said returning participants can register online through an existing Be Active account. New applicants and residents with a temporary disability must register in person at the Alan Strike Aquatic and Squash Centre, Courtice Community Complex, Diane Hamre Recreation Complex, Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex, or South Courtice Arena.

Clarington’s notice did not provide a definition of “eligible urban areas.”
