Clarington passes bylaws designating five heritage properties in Bowmanville and Courtice
The Municipality of Clarington has passed bylaws designating five properties in Bowmanville and Courtice for their architectural and historical value under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act, with most appeal deadlines set for 4:30 p.m. on December 6, 2025, according to municipal notices dated November 7, 2025.
Heritage designation formally recognizes a property’s heritage value under the Act. Objections may be appealed to the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT).
The designated properties are: 19½–23 King Street West, Bowmanville; 33 King Street West, Bowmanville; 192 Liberty Street North, Bowmanville; 175 Liberty Street North, Bowmanville; and 1598 Baseline Road West, Courtice.
The bylaws are: 2025-050 (19½–23 King Street West, Bowmanville); 2025-051 (33 King Street West, Bowmanville); 2025-052 (192 Liberty Street North, Bowmanville); 2025-053 (175 Liberty Street North, Bowmanville); and 2025-054 (1598 Baseline Road West, Courtice).
Appeals may be filed with the Clerk via the Ontario Land Tribunal e-file service by selecting the Municipality of Clarington as the Approval Authority, or by mail to 40 Temperance Street, Bowmanville, ON L1C 3A6. A Notice of Appeal must set out the reasons for the objection to the designation bylaw. Filings after 4:30 p.m., in person or electronically, are deemed received the next business day. The appeal fee is $1,100, payable online through the e-file system or by certified cheque or money order to the Minister of Finance, Province of Ontario. For 19½–23 King Street West, 33 King Street West, 175 Liberty Street North, and 1598 Baseline Road West, the appeal deadline is 4:30 p.m. on December 6, 2025. In the notice for 192 Liberty Street North, the appeal deadline appears as “December XX, 2025.”
