Clarington Sets June 19 Meeting for Soper Hills and Courtice Community Planning
Clarington will present draft Secondary Plans for the Soper Hills and Courtice Transit-Oriented Community areas at a public meeting on June 19, 2025, starting at 6:30 p.m. The meeting is scheduled to take place in person at Council Chambers, Municipal Administrative Centre, 40 Temperance Street, Bowmanville, and will also be available by live stream. According to the municipality, public input is being sought on the proposed plans.
According to the municipality, feedback from residents on the Secondary Plans may help inform the planning process, including any changes before adoption. The municipality states that residents will be able to review and comment on the proposed developments affecting these two areas.
According to the municipality, the Courtice Transit-Oriented Community Secondary Plan area is located south of Bloor Street, north of Highway 401, east of Robinson Creek, and west of Tooley Creek and Highway 418. The municipality’s draft plan describes a mixed-use neighbourhood centered on the future Courtice GO Station, with a variety of housing types, office space, commercial, and industrial uses. As outlined by the municipality, other features include new schools, community facilities, designed streets with sidewalks and bike lanes, access to surrounding natural areas, and a connection to Lake Ontario and the Courtice Waterfront.
The municipality further states that the Soper Hills Secondary Plan area is on the east side of Bowmanville, generally bounded by Regional Highway 2 (south), Lambs Road (west), the Canadian Pacific Railway (north), and Bennett/Providence Road (east). The draft plan proposes different housing types, a neighbourhood centre for shopping and services, new schools, a community-wide park, and a network of trails connecting to natural areas, according to the municipality.
Drafts of both plans and their associated Official Plan Amendments will be available online by May 30, 2025, according to the municipality. The municipality states that those wishing to speak at the June 19 public meeting can participate in person without pre-registration or register in advance to speak online. The municipality has posted additional information about providing written comments and joining the interested parties list on the respective project webpages.
