Clarington sets Oct. 20–26 window for 2026 municipal election with online and phone voting

Clarington’s 2026 municipal election will be held online and by telephone from 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, according to a notice posted by the Municipality of Clarington.

The municipality says voters will need a mailed Voter Information Letter that includes a unique personal identification number (PIN) to cast a ballot. The notice also outlines where residents can get help if they do not receive their letter or cannot vote from home.

Voter Information Letters have been mailed to each eligible elector on the voters’ list, the municipality said. The letter contains voting instructions and the PIN required to vote online or by telephone.

Residents who do not receive a Voter Information Letter in the mail may not be on the voters’ list, according to the municipal notice.

Depending on a voter’s address and school support, ballots will include races for mayor, regional councillor, local councillor and school board trustee, the municipality said.

Clarington says it has set up Election Assistance Centres for people who need help during the voting process or need to add their name to the voters’ list. According to the notice, the centres can provide a Voter Information Letter and PIN if one was not received, help correct an address or school support information, provide access to laptops for voting for people without internet access or a touch-tone telephone, and offer assistance with voting.

The election information was published by the Municipality of Clarington on Oct. 7.
