Clarington taking applications until Oct. 8 for committee and board vacancies

The Municipality of Clarington is accepting applications until Oct. 8 from residents interested in serving on several municipal advisory committees and boards. Appointments from this intake are for a term that runs to Dec. 31, 2030.

These committees and boards help handle parts of local decision-making, including accessibility issues, minor planning variances, property standards appeals, oversight of the public library system, and investigations tied to the Ontario Wildlife Damage Compensation Program.

Vacancies are available on five bodies: the Accessibility Advisory Committee (eight), the Committee of Adjustment (seven), the Property Standards Committee (six), the Public Library Board (eight), and Livestock Valuers (two).

According to the municipality, the Accessibility Advisory Committee reviews municipal policies, programs and services to help ensure they follow provincial accessibility standards and to identify, prevent and remove barriers for people with disabilities. Applicants must be Clarington residents and are expected to be familiar with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and its standards, disability and accessibility issues, and Clarington’s goods, services and facilities. The municipality notes that at least 50 per cent of the committee must be made up of people with disabilities. The role is unpaid.

Established under the Planning Act, the Committee of Adjustment decides applications for minor variances to the zoning by-law. It considers evidence presented at public hearings and makes decisions based on legislative requirements and applicable planning policies. The committee meets as needed, typically monthly, and members are paid $107.64 per meeting (2026 rate), the municipality said.

The Property Standards Committee hears appeals of orders issued by property standards officers under Clarington’s Property Standards By-law. The municipality said applicants are expected to be familiar with administrative tribunal procedures, admissibility of evidence, and relevant provisions of the Ontario Building Code Act. Members are paid $59.37 per meeting (2026 rate).

The Public Library Board sets policies and oversees the operation and programs of Clarington’s Library, Museums and Archives, according to the municipality. The position is unpaid.

Clarington is also seeking two livestock valuers to investigate claims involving livestock killed or injured by wildlife under the Ontario Wildlife Damage Compensation Program. The municipality said valuers determine the type of predator involved and complete a written report that includes a compensation amount under the program. Valuers are paid $61.15 per visit (2026 rate), plus mileage.
