Class 2 recall issued for bulk pistachio kernels sold at Toronto store due to Salmonella risk
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a Class 2 recall for unbranded Pistachio Raw Kernels sold in bulk self-serve at Kim Natural Food, 219 Roncesvalles Avenue in Toronto, due to possible Salmonella contamination. The nuts were sold in Ontario from September 11 up to and including September 19, 2025, and the recall is linked to an ongoing foodborne illness outbreak investigation.
Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes deadly infections, particularly in young children, pregnant women, older adults and people with weakened immune systems. Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled. Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea; long-term complications may include severe arthritis.
The recalled product is listed as “Pistachio Raw Kernels,” with no brand, sold in variable amounts via bulk self-serve, and has no UPC. The recalling firm is Kim Natural Food in Toronto.
The CFIA advises consumers not to consume, serve, use, sell or distribute the recalled pistachios. The agency also advises checking for the product and throwing it out or returning it to the place of purchase. Anyone who thinks they became ill after consuming the recalled product should contact a healthcare provider.
The recall was triggered by findings during a CFIA food safety investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak. The Public Health Agency of Canada is investigating an outbreak of human illness associated with this issue. The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation that may lead to additional recalls and is verifying that industry is removing recalled products from the marketplace.
The recall applies to distribution in Ontario. The alert is a Food recall warning in the “Food – Nuts, grains, and seeds” category and was published September 27, 2025. The recall identification number is RA-78153 (CFIA ID 16787).
