Continuous sewer microtunnelling and night work planned on Kingston Road in Ajax from March 9 to April 2026

Night work and continuous construction are planned on Kingston Road (Regional Highway 2) in Ajax between Harwood Avenue and Galea Drive from March 9 through the end of April 2026, as Durham Region continues utility work for the Durham-Scarborough Bus Rapid Transit project.

For residents, drivers and nearby businesses, the work is expected to bring ongoing traffic restrictions during non-peak hours, along with noise and possible ground vibrations from construction equipment.

Durham Region says the main work involves microtunnelling and excavation to install a sanitary sewer underneath Kingston Road, from 200 metres west of Salem Road (Regional Road 41) to 130 metres east of Galea Drive.

The region says contractor KAPP Infrastructure will carry out continuous work for the sanitary sewer microtunnel installation from 7 a.m. Monday to 7 a.m. Saturday during that March 9 to end-of-April 2026 construction window. Durham Region says unfavourable weather may influence the work schedule.

The project also includes watermain construction along Kingston Road from Harwood Avenue (Regional Road 44) to approximately 300 metres east. Durham Region says it will provide further advance notice at a later date before night work begins for watermain construction and connections.

During non-peak hours, traffic on Kingston Road is to be reduced to one lane in each direction for the duration of construction, according to the region. Traffic delays are expected for drivers, local residents and business owners.

Access to business entrances will be maintained whenever possible. Durham Region says businesses in the area will remain open during construction.

The project is partially funded through the federal Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, according to Durham Region.
