Counterfeit Currency Investigation at Scugog Gas Station: Police Seek Suspect and Stolen Vehicle
Police are investigating the use of counterfeit currency at the Shell Gas Station at 19100 7 & 12 Highway in Scugog, following two incidents that occurred on April 6 and April 7, 2025, according to the Durham Regional Police Service.
Police are asking for public assistance in identifying the suspect.
According to police, on April 6 at approximately 7:05 p.m., a male suspect purchased a 12-pack of beer, a pack of cigarettes, and two bottles of soda at the gas station convenience store, using four counterfeit $20 Canadian bills. The suspect received legitimate currency as change. Police say the same person returned on April 7 and again used counterfeit $20 bills for purchases.
In both incidents, the suspect was seen leaving in a green, older model Chevy pickup truck with Ontario plates 80361T. Police state that this vehicle has been confirmed as stolen.
Police describe the suspect as a white male, about 50 years old, with a heavy build, an unshaven moustache, and a goatee. On April 6, he was wearing a yellow toque, black hoodie, and a green and black plaid jacket with a large rip in the back. On April 7, police report he was wearing a yellow toque, black leather jacket, black t-shirt with a flying eagle image, and blue jeans.
Images of the suspect and the vehicle are available on the Durham Regional Police Service website. Police request that anyone with information contact the Financial Crimes Unit or provide anonymous tips to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers. Tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward.
