Daesang Gochujang Recalled in Ontario, Manitoba, and Quebec for Undeclared Wheat
A batch of Daesang brand Gochujang, a spicy red pepper paste, is being recalled in Ontario, Manitoba, and Quebec due to undeclared wheat, according to a warning issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) on August 21, 2025. The recall applies to 500-gram packages bearing the UPC 8 80 1052 802022 and best before date 2025.10.29.
The CFIA states the recalled product contains wheat, which is not listed on the label. The agency warns that people who are allergic or sensitive to wheat, including those with celiac disease or other gluten-related disorders, may experience serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume this product.
According to the CFIA, the recall was triggered by a consumer complaint, with one reaction reported. Pan Asia Food Co. Ltd. is identified as the recalling firm. The CFIA says it is continuing its investigation, which could lead to recalls of additional products if necessary, and is verifying that recalled items are removed from stores.
The CFIA advises consumers with the affected product not to consume, sell, use, serve, or distribute the recalled Gochujang. The agency says recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased.
More information about the recall, the investigation process, and how to report a food safety or labelling concern is available from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. The recall reference number is RA-77933.
