Demolition Activities Cease at Former Goodyear Lands in Bowmanville

The Municipality of Clarington has halted demolition activities at the former Goodyear lands in Bowmanville. This action follows the issuance of an Order to Comply under the Ontario Building Code, as there is no approved development plan or demolition permit for the main building on the site. Clarington Fire and Emergency Services have also issued several notices to secure the site due to safety and fire hazard concerns.

Municipal staff are in discussions with the property owner, the Provincial government, and the Durham Region Health Department to address safety and environmental issues. Clarington plans to hire an independent expert to monitor the site and ensure compliance with safe and legal demolition practices.

The former Goodyear lands are part of the Bowmanville East Urban Centre Secondary Plan area, which is undergoing updates. This plan will guide future development, including environmental studies specific to the site. The updated plan is expected to be presented to the Council in December.
