Demolition starts at 18–22 Prince St. for Bowmanville Hospital redevelopment

Demolition and site preparation for the Bowmanville Hospital redevelopment began Nov. 5, with three houses at 18, 20 and 22 Prince Street in Bowmanville taken down to clear space for construction. Hospital services remain open during this phase.

The Prince Street properties are being cleared and repurposed for future construction tied to the hospital expansion. REA Construction was selected to handle the demolition and site preparation following a request for proposals that began in July 2025. Lakeridge Health says the redevelopment will increase the number of beds at the hospital.

Lakeridge Health cites projections that Durham Region’s population will double by 2041 as context for the project.

“This enabling work is an important step forward in the Bowmanville Hospital Redevelopment project as we prepare for the groundbreaking milestone in the future,” said Cynthia Davis, president and CEO of Lakeridge Health.

The Bowmanville Hospital Foundation’s We Care, We Can campaign is raising the community share of the redevelopment and equipment costs. “Every milestone we reach is powered by the community,” said Maria Petri, the foundation’s chief executive officer.

“Our little hospital has to expand to meet the needs of our growing community. By clearing this space, Lakeridge Health is getting ready to more than double the Bowmanville hospital’s size, so folks can count on great health care in Clarington for years to come,” said Clarington Mayor Adrian Foster.

Lakeridge Health said it aims to minimize disruption to daily operations, patient care, nearby residents, community members and local businesses during this work. The organization said its team will address concerns and maintain communication with neighbours and the wider community throughout the demolition and redevelopment phases.
