DRPS and CDCD Hold Fifth Annual Soccer Tournament for Newcomer Youth

On July 16, 2025, the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) Youth in Policing Initiative, in partnership with the Community Development Council Durham (CDCD), held its fifth annual Newcomer Soccer Tournament. The event took place for newcomer youth aged 13 to 24, according to the DRPS.

The tournament provided an opportunity for newcomer youth, Youth in Policing students, and DRPS members to participate in soccer and team-building activities. According to the DRPS, the event aims to offer a welcoming space for newcomers to engage and take part in group activities.

DRPS reported attendance from 46 newcomer youth, 120 Youth in Policing students and leaders, and eight DRPS members at the tournament. Superintendent Rob Antaya of the DRPS delivered opening remarks before the event began.

The DRPS acknowledged support from several partners for the event, including the Community Development Council Durham, Durham District School Board, Whitby FC, and Sergeant Dave Ashfield. According to the DRPS, the tournament is part of ongoing initiatives organized by the Youth in Policing Initiative and the CDCD to support newcomer youth.
