DRPS Opens Applications for 22nd Annual Police Chief for a Day Contest
The Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) announced on June 3, 2025, that its 22nd annual Police Chief for a Day Contest is open for applications. The contest is open to students entering Grade 5 in September 2025 at schools in Durham Region. According to DRPS, participants must submit an essay on the topic, “What would you do if you were Police Chief for a day?” by September 17, 2024.
The contest offers the selected student the opportunity to serve as DRPS Chief for a day on October 28, 2025. This event is intended for children in local schools and provides a chance for direct interaction with the local police service.
According to DRPS, the winner will be sworn in, receive a full DRPS uniform, and visit police units. The student will also attend the Police Appreciation Dinner and Awards Night on October 30, 2025, and participate in DRPS events such as the Food & Toy Drive and Police Week.
DRPS notes that essays can be up to 500 words. DRPS says entries may be submitted online through the contest application form or by email. Entries must include the student’s full name, school name and location, and school board, according to DRPS.
