Durham breaks ground on 200-resident long-term care home planned for Seaton in north Pickering
Durham Region held a groundbreaking ceremony on March 15 for a long-term care home planned for 200 residents in the Seaton community in north Pickering, with Ontario’s Minister of Long-Term Care, Stan Cho, attending.
The project matters for area residents because Durham Region operates four regionally owned and operated long-term care homes, and regional officials say the new facility is intended to add capacity.
The announcement came in a statement issued on behalf of Regional Chair and CEO John Henry.
Henry said the new home will be built at a site in north Pickering and described it as the Region’s “newest long-term care home.” He said the facility will “help alleviate long-term care home shortages and capacity issues,” and said it is intended to serve Durham’s older residents.
Henry also said the home is expected to become “a fixture in the Seaton community.”
The Region has not provided a construction timeline, an expected opening date, or a project cost.
Henry called the province’s support through the Ministry of Long-Term Care a “significant investment,” but the statement did not include a dollar amount.
