Durham College faculty member Tanya Heck earns WorldChefs Certified Pastry Chef designation
Tanya Heck, a faculty member at Durham College’s Oshawa and Whitby campuses, has earned the WorldChefs Certified Pastry Chef designation, the college said in a post dated Feb. 10.
The designation may be of interest to local residents who follow Durham College’s culinary programs, which train students for food-service work in Durham Region.
Heck teaches in Durham College’s Culinary Management and Culinary Skills programs, according to the college’s post. The college said she has taught at Durham College for more than a decade.
Durham College said the certification process included professional competency testing and a review of Heck’s qualifications and career achievements.
“Pursuing this certification was both a personal and professional goal,” Heck said in a statement published by the college.
The college also said students in its Culinary Management and Culinary Skills programs train at the W. Galen Weston Centre for Food and work in Bistro ’67, which it described as a teaching restaurant.
Durham College did not provide details in the post about when Heck completed the certification process.
