Durham College Graduate Reflects on Student Involvement and Offers New Student Advice
With the new school year beginning at Durham College, Max Morrow, a two-time graduate of the college, described his experiences and shared advice for new students in an interview published by Durham College on September 5, 2025. Morrow completed the Advertising and Promotion and Human Resources – Business Administration programs and is starting studies in Organizational Behaviour and Human Resources Management at Ontario Tech University this September.
Morrow's account is relevant to new and returning students navigating campus life by providing insight into opportunities for involvement at Durham College. His background includes participation in student organizations and committees, which he describes as a significant part of his college experience.
Morrow noted that some of the most meaningful parts of his time at Durham College happened outside the classroom. He started the Durham College Human Resource Association, served as Student Director for the Faculty of Business and Information Technology on the Durham College Student Association (DCSA) Board, and participated in the Program Advisory Committee, College Advisory Council, and Human Resources Student Advisory Council. In these positions, he worked with local businesses and community partners.
According to Morrow, getting involved in student groups provided chances to meet people, apply classroom knowledge in practical settings, and take on new challenges. He advised new students to participate in clubs, engage with DCSA groups, organize their schedules, keep up with deadlines, and maintain communication with professors.
Morrow also completed a work study program with the college's Human Resources department, describing it as a way to use classroom learning in a practical workplace environment. He said this experience helped him gain a better understanding of his field and make professional connections.
To manage competing priorities, Morrow said he prioritized his mental health and built strong relationships to remain flexible and manage his responsibilities. He emphasized that taking part in various aspects of the student community was beneficial during his time at the college.
